Day 111 Read Across America Day- Mr. Maloney NRMS Vice-Principal

On Wednesday I had the honor and privilege of reading to Mrs. Kelley's fifth grade class in celebration of Read Across America Day.  I was thoroughly impressed with her students and their insights about the book I read and their questions about the Middle School.
I chose to read "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss as one of the main themes of the book is transition. It was an appropriate book to read as the fifth graders are preparing to make the transition from elementary school to middle school.  It talks about having "Ups and downs and ins and outs" and how we may make mistakes through life but it is in the getting up and moving forward where we learn our lessons.

Mrs. Kelley's fifth graders had thoughtful and poignant comments as we discussed the book and the different transitions that they have already experienced and some transitions they have yet to live.

When I returned to the Middle School I immediately commented to Ms. O'Connell that we are very lucky to have such well prepared students to look forward to next year at NRMS.

I want to thank Mrs. Hegarty and Mr. McKay for inviting me to read to their students at the Hood School and to Mrs. Kelley and her class for being such great hosts.

We all are truly lucky to have such great kids and such great adults working together in our district.
