Day #17 Ms. Cheever Grade 2 Teacher
Today, I saw my 2nd graders playing nicely during indoor recess,
cooperating during science, supporting each other during math and
helping one another during a desk clean out session. I enjoyed
a lovely lunch with some friends which renewed me for the afternoon (on
this rainy, dreary day). I learned that "friendship isn't one big thing,
it's a million little things."

What Did I Learn Today- Mrs. Gauvain Grade 3 Teacher
Day #16
Today I learned it is absolutely okay to steal great ideas from your colleagues and make it your own! Collaboration is such an important part of a teacher’s day. It can be a quick conversation in the hallway about an upcoming activity or a scheduled time following a preset agenda. We inspire and motivate each other, and most importantly we learn from each other.

Day #15 Barbara Fitzgerald ELL Teacher
In one 5th grade class today, we had been reading a story about a man
whose career was in a small way inspired by a childhood memory, in
particular, the smell of rain outside in the morning after a storm. The
lesson ended and it was snack time, so we began an informal discussion
during our break about certain things that reminded us of special times
in our lives. It being snack time, of course there were many memories
of the scent of food during special occasions. One of the students said
that she missed the smell of her grandmother's sauce because she hadn't
made it in a while. I suggested that she find the recipe and keep the
tradition going by learning how to make it herself. I brought up one of
my favorite food memories of the pie assembly line that my mother had
organized at the kitchen table just days before Thanksgiving. I told
them how I loved the aroma of mincemeat pie. It was quickly apparent
from the look on their faces, that the students had no idea what mince
meat pie was. I also realized that my mother was the last person I know
of that had made a mincemeat pie. I also realized that all of my
pies had been "store bought" during the holidays! Today I learned that I
should practice what I preach!

What Did I Learn Today- Glen S. McKay, Principal
Day #14
In order to answer the question, what did I learned today, I would think through my
day and mention the following activities: I researched student engagement. I
began to read a book about leadership and learning. I talked with a colleague
about co-teaching in our school and its impact on student learning. I watched a
wonderful video from a second grade class that documented their talents. From
each of these activities I learned something. Some of the knowledge I gained is
discrete and easily defined, some is more complex and interrelated, and some
gives me information about my relationships and myself. There are many more
things I’ve heard or read today that may become important—or not. These
represent but a tiny portion of the experiences that accumulate over days,
weeks, months and years into layers that form my unique body of knowledge,
which are then filtered through my distinctive way of perceiving the world, my
personality and interactions with individuals and the larger society.
The Blogging Starts!
The Learn365 Blog at the Hood School Debuts on
Monday September 24, 2012. Each Day a Member of our School Community will
Reveal What He/She Learned Today. This will be the Hood Schools contribution
to the #Learn365 Project. It is modeled on past
iterations such as the Parkland School Divisions 184 Days of
Learning and the #edu180atl initiative, based out of Atlanta.
The goal is to paint a virtual mural of what happens every day at our school documenting
what we as a school value as learning.
Every
day of the school year, one student, teacher, or administrator will share a
post of 200 words or less answering the question, "What did you learn
today?"
